DREAM JOURNEYS: THE MALDIVES

Renowned around the world for their pristine white beaches ringed with crystal clear waters and reefs teeming with life, the Maldives are the epitome of paradise. Located in the Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea, the Maldives are a collection of atolls made up of over 1000 islands, over 100 of which are resorts. Whether you plan on being active or simply kicking back and relaxing, there is bound to be a resort to suit you. Snorkelling and diving are both readily available, with PADI dive centres located on most resort islands. There are also great spots for surfing and, during the right season, you can swim with manta rays and whale sharks. If all this sounds a bit like hard work, you’ll also find some truly outstanding spas, with many resorts also offering Ayurvedic therapies alongside the regular massages, facials etc.

Baros is one of our favourite resorts, not only because of its long history in the Maldives, but also because of the lavish comfort and sense of exclusivity. Equally opulent is the stunning Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru, where both the beach and overwater villas are some of the best we’ve seen. If you’re looking for something a little funky, Niyama is one of the newer resorts, more modern in style and offering an underwater bar called Subsix.

So, if you’re feeling tempted to explore this little slice of paradise you’ll want to know how to get there. If you’re willing to stop off for fuel, you can charter a Falcon 2000S, Challenger 850 or Legacy 600. It’ll take between 11-12 hours, require a 45 minute-1 hour stop off for refuelling and cost approx. GBP70,000 one-way. If you’d rather go direct, you’ll need to upgrade to a Falcon 7X or Global Express/6000 which will take between 9-10 hours and cost approx. GBP100,000 one-way.
