When you fly into the Maldives the landing seems all too quick. Tiny islands scattered across an azure ocean whizz beneath you as you come in sight of the tiny airport, accommodating its own little island off the main island of Malé. When you disembark your aircraft you’ll quickly be whisked through security and immigration and, unless you’ve chosen to get a boat, be chauffeured over to the seaplane terminal.

This is where Malé Airport shows it’s true, unique, colours. Pontoon after pontoon is filled with brightly coloured Twin Otter seaplanes each bound for a different atoll or collection of islands. Your luggage will be packed and then you’ll hop on, with only a handful of other passengers and be on your way. The pilots are sat at the front and you have a clear view of their control panel and their view out the front. The flight itself is exciting, from the water take-off to gliding over countless tiny islands ringed with coral. The photo opportunities are endless, especially if you get the seats just ahead of the propeller. Landings are equally breath-taking, and the perfect way to arrive at your heavenly Maldivian island.
